The "Birthday Book" tradition began at Woods School during the 1989–1990 school year. This is a practice common to most independent schools whereby the student gives a present on his/her birthday in addition to receiving presents. Having generated much interest among the students through the years, this book-giving program continues this year.
Students are invited to give a book or books to the library which becomes a part of the school's permanent collection. In this way, everyone is able to benefit from each student's birthday. Books may be new or cash may be sent with a request for a particular volume.
A book plate indicating the student's name and birth date will be placed on the inside cover. While this procedure is a way of enhancing our book collection, it also provides students with a sense of service to others as well as an increased commitment to the Media Center as the hub of our intellectual life.
Suggestions for birthday books are available from Mrs. Swanson. She will be delighted to indicate what books are needed or what titles would be particularly interesting for students abvout the same age as your child. Books or money should be given to Mrs. Swanson in the Media Center.
