The Life Science class finished their work on Muscular, Skeleton, and Digestive Systems. Students finished their Human Body Reports and shared their findings with the class. The students did a wonderful job with Powerpoint Presentations. We will continue to investigate the other systems of the human body; nervous and reproductive systems.
The Earth Science class recently completed work on earthquakes and volcanoes. We will spend some time watching videos on volcanoes and have used the internet to investigage active earthquakes and volcanoes. We will be building volcanoes and investigate fossils. We will make various molds and imprints. We will start a unit on Geologic Time and Eras.
The Physical Science class will start to investigate the work of simple machines – input and output. The class will also learn about simple machines and do various activities with Legos and K'nex.

The Eighth Graders have just finished work on the three of the systems of the human body. We spent a couple of days dissecting and looking over a hog's heart and lung combination. The students will be working on researching various human body related topics, writing their major paper, and preparing an oral presenation.
The Physical Science class – 6th Graders – recently finished their work on Newton's Laws of Motion. Our lab consisted of using balloons, straws and string to demonstrate Newton's Third Law. We will be reading and discussing forces, work, power, and simple machines. Legos will be used in a few of these investigations. We will be making machines, etc.
Earth Science – 7th Graders – will be continuing their work on earthquakes, volcanoes, and plate tectonics. Models will be created (and a little erupt!).

|
The 8th Graders just wrapped up a unit on fossils and we started our unit on the Human Body. We will be covering the systems of the body. Lab will include the dissecting and looking into the structure and function of a pork lung and heart combination.
The 7th Graders finished December with erosion of the landscape. Our lab took us into the effects of weathering on chalk. Students filled out a lab report sheet that included the steps of the Scientific Method.
The 6th Graders finished up their units on chemical reactions along with physical and chemical changes. Labs included work with various chemical reactions and with acids and bases. This month we will spend time with speed and motion.

|
|
The sixth graders recently completed units on matter and vrious states of matter; it's properties and changes of matter. In December, we will be looking at Motion, forces and Newton's Laws.
The seventh graders worked on the rock cycle, earth's energy, and mineral resources. This month they will spend time on the Changing Surface of the Earth with erosion and weathering forces.
The eighth graders investigated the cell and it's structures and functions; cell division; and genes. We will start on the Human Body this month.

The Junior High Science classes started the year with a review of the scientific method and an introduction to each of the main courses of study: Life, Earth, and Physical. Eighth graders studied the cell; structures and functions of the cell. They also made clay models of a typical plant and animal cell. In the weeks ahead, we will be using microscopes to study cells.
The seventh graders reviewed matter, gases, solids, liquids, and plasma. We also reviewed the structure of the atom. We will be getting into minerals and the rock cycle. The class will be visiting Star Lab.
Matter has been the main topic for the sixth graders. We did labs with density, Charles's Law, gas, solids, and liquids. Mixtures, elements, and compounds will be investigated during the next few weeks.
