camelion.gifMarch is a whilrwind of activity in 3rd grade. We are busy preparing for the exciting events of spring.

We have finished up our theme on Endangered Animals and we are looking forward to our next exciting unit on the Rainforest. In this next unit students will discover rainforest animals, plants, and people. During this unit of study, students will be writing reports about the rainforest. We will also make a book about the rainforest.

In math, we are currently working on division and the 7's in multiplication. We are also learning how to divide with remainders. In the weeks to come we will begin a unit on Geometry. Please continue to work on basic multiplication and division facts at home!

I enjoyed meeting with all of you at conferences on the 18th of February.

Happy Spring!!! butterfly-icon.png

valentine_hearts.jpgWe are excited about all the learning opportunities this month. In Science, our electricity unit promises to be fun and exciting as we experiment with batteries and electricity. In Social Studies, we are wrapping up a unit on endangered animals. The reports are informative as well as interesting. Check out the bulletin board in the hallway to learn how there is still time to save these animals.

In math, we are memorizing our multiplication tables. MathDroids and math Wrap-Ups are helping us to memorize the multiplication facts. Congratulations to all the third graders who are getting their homework in on time and still finding time to practice their math facts.

This month we will visit the Lake Geneva Post Office. It is an interesting tour, and Valentine Cards will arrive in the mail!

Skiing so far has been great fun! It is fun watching them on the hills trying their new skills.

Third Grade Round-Up
Written by Tonya Crowell
Thursday, 24 December 2009

covered_wagon_horses.gifWe have rounded-up testing materials and turned them in. When we weren't testing, we enjoyed using our chuck wagon as a reading corner. Our Wild West unit was exciting, and we all agreed that being a part of the pony express would have been a challenging and dangerous job in 1860. Our round-up continues in December with Storylords. This video series is a fun way to learn new strategies in reading.

Third graders enjoyed Thanksgiving. They are all very thankful for family and pets. Their favorite Thanksgiving foods were turkey and dessert.

Happy Holidays from Third Grade!

Third Grade News School is flying by quickly.  It is hard to believe we are already at the end of the first quarter.  All third graders are quickly grasping how to write and read in cursive.  Their extra practice is really showing in writing.  Our BoxCar book reports kept us busy solving mysteries in October. Way to go Third grade!   Our recycling unit is teaching us how to reduce our garbage, reuse what we can, and to pre-cycle whenever possible.  It is truly a full circle unit as our field trip has been moved to the end of March.  We are beginning three-digit subtraction with regrouping in math. This keeps us busy trying to subtract using mental math and regrouping skills.
