What parents can expect this year in class:
Middle School at Woods is great place for learning and fun. Sixth through eighth grade will participate in several simulations and projects that coincide with the study of language arts. A few are as follows: Sixth grade will study China and have a presentation of what they learned at the school’s yearly Chinese lunch. Seventh grade will travel a Native American Honor Stray while they study and practice descriptive writing. Eighth grade participates in an advertising unit. Divided into groups of ad agencies, they will devise a variety of ads to promote assigned products, eventually to win the advertising campaign. They also read a selection of literature genres and respond to those selections with compare and contrast essays, reviews, persuasion papers, and cause and effect paragraphs– all in preparation for high school.
Also the middle school participates in a bike hike September 22. On February 1, we will travel to the PAC to see the play ‘The Magic Bicycle’. Finally, spring brings the sixth grade’s annual Outdoor Education adventure at Burlington’s Camp MacLean.
